The Power of Antioxidants
By David Heber, M.D., Ph.D., F.A.C.P., F.A.C.N.
Chairman of Scientific Advisory Board and
Nutrition Advisory Board, Herbalife
Q: What are antioxidants and what do they do?
A: Antioxidants are compounds that help protect the body against free radical damage.
Free radicals are unstable molecules that are formed in our bodies in response to
stress, poor diet, defects that accumulate with aging, cigarette smoke and other
pollutants in our environment. They damage our DNA and can cause several other
problems, including premature aging. Based on the foundation of
Cellular Nutrition, Herbalife’s
Targeted Nutrition products contain key antioxidants that help to fight free
radicals at the cellular level. They help our natural defense mechanisms neutralize
these free radicals by rendering them non-harmful and repairing cellular damage.
Q: What foods are rich in antioxidants?
A: Antioxidants are abundant
in colorful fruits and vegetables because that is what gives them those colors.
However, since most of us fall short of the recommended
five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables, supplements ensure we’re getting our
daily requirements. For example, Garden 7 tablets provide key plant-based nutrients
equivalent to seven servings of fruits and vegetables. Berries are also one of the best sources of antioxidants.
Triple Berry Complex harnesses the power of cranberries,
blueberries and bilberries to give your body a powerful antioxidant boost.
Q: Will only one antioxidant provide all the protection I need?
A: No. Combinations of antioxidants have been proven to be more effective than single
antioxidants. Because free radicals damage immune function, a team of antioxidants
is needed to boost the immune system and help fight them off. Herbalife’s
Schizandra Plus
protects our cells by providing them with the antioxidants in schizandra berries,
Vitamins C and E, beta carotene and the mineral selenium.

Blueberries contain
the most antioxidants
of any fruit. Just one
serving provides as
many antioxidants as
five servings of carrots,
broccoli, or squash. |
