Stephan Gratziani's Herbalife Independent Distributorship operates on four continents and in almost 30 countries.
Stephan, a former top US National Cyclist, moved to France in 1989 to pursue his dream
of racing professionally in Europe. "My dream was to 'turn pro' and race in the Tour de France,"
recalls Stephan, "but after 2 1/2 years of racing in Europe, I realized it wasn't going to happen."
Shortly after making the decision to end his cycling career, Stephan attended an HOM in Paris and joined Herbalife.
"When I started my business in 1991, Chairman's Club member Alan Lorenz was always
inspiring me to 'think and work globally,'" Stephan says. By 1998, he had lived and worked
in over 10 different countries in Europe, South America and Asia. His four President's Team
lines came from time spent in four of those countries: France, Brazil, Belgium and Thailand.
"Somewhere along the line," Stephan says, "people started calling me 'Mr. International' and the name just stuck."
Stephan was invited to Montreal as a guest speaker where he met his future wife, Gaura.
"The best thing that ever happened to me was meeting my wife at an HOM," he says.
"Mark Hughes used to say 'you never know who you are speaking to in a room' and he was right!"
Settling down and ramping up
In early 2000, the couple's decision to start a family would mean a change in Stephan's business strategy.
"For almost 10 years I was focused on building business in new countries and this meant a lot of travel
and time away from home," Stephan says, "It wasn't an ideal situation for starting and raising a family,
so I decided to stop traveling to new countries and focus on the places where I already had business and my existing organization."
The decision to settle down and focus on his existing Distributors transformed his business.
"I had a handful of people committed to becoming President's Team members and I decided
to work closely with them to reach their goals," says Stephan. "What I learned by doing this
is that anyone can make it to President's Team if they are committed!"
"This change of focus in my business has had a huge impact on my income over the last four
years," explains Stephan. "In 2001 my income was $360,000, in 2002 it grew to $560,000,
in 2003 it reached $820,000, and in 2004, I had my first million-dollar year.
"By starting Herbalife 25 years ago, Mark Hughes gave an ordinary person like me an opportunity
to have an extraordinary life," says Stephan, "and today, the opportunity has never been better.
