Celebrating 20 years of success


Alan and Dava B. were at the end of their financial rope when they discovered Herbalife. The phone in their New York home had been turned off and so had the lights. Their car had been repossessed and their textile business was falling apart when a neighbor who was picking up his son from a birthday party showed up with an enthusiasm for Herbalife that piqued Alan and Dava's curiosity.

"We were skeptical, but we went to an HOM," Alan says. "We bought the products, and they sat in our kitchen for three days. Finally, I decided we shouldn't waste our money and I got on the products. I lost weight and our business took off." That was over 20 years ago, and Alan and Dava's Herbal life business is still going strong. As the couple celebrate more than two decades of success, they reflect on all they have achieved, and provide insight on what they have done to keep their business growing all these years.

"Yes, we put out flyers, yes, we place ads, yes, our names are in the phone book," they say emphatically. "But it's the power of Use, Wear, Talk that's kept us going." Back when Alan and Dava first started the business, it was using the products and talking about their weight loss that gave them success. When Dava called on buyers to show fabric, they noticed she was losing weight and they wanted the products, too. Then she started wearing the button and sales escalated. "You need to get on the products," Dava says. "When you look good, you feel good, and when you talk to people about Herbal life products and the business, it makes it easier to show people that you can help them look and feel better, too."

From part-time to fulltime, Alan and Dava's business ultimately took off. The couple says that thanks to Herbal life, they have traveled the world and helped their three children go to college. Best of all they are healthy and still enjoy getting up for work each day. "We're in our 60's and we're in better health than we were in our 40's," Alan says. "There is so much potential to help others with their health, as well as their wealth, in the wellness industry. This is one company where age doesn't matter."*

With the addition of ShapeWorks, their business has only grown stronger. Dava lost an additional 18 pounds and four dress sizes, and Alan lost 22 pounds of body fat and gained 12 pounds of lean muscle. And the momentum from ShapeWorks is helping them build their business like never before. "We are more excited about this business potential now than we have been in the whole 20-plus years we've been in business," Alan said. "This company is going to surpass even what Mark Hughes dreamed possible, and we're thrilled to be a part of it."
